Trend Report Spring/Summer 2015
Hot off the Runway - Wardrobe Update

2015 is all about going back to the ‘70s – well in style that is…

Looking through many runway reports from the Spring/Summer 2015 collections this seems to be the prediction of the year. From the designers at Gucci, creative director Massimiliano Giornetti for Salvatore Ferragamo to the Neiman Marcus vice-president Ken Downing.

In an interview with Harpers Bazaar Ken Downing points out that “for the first time in a long time, everyone from New York to London, Milan and Paris was transmitting that idea of the ‘70s, but with their own point of view. Designers were on the same page, so much so that if they weren’t on the page it actually looked peculiar, as opposed to feeling directional.”

Some of my favourite pieces that are coming through this ‘70s movement, starts with fringing. The Fringe detailing from Coats and High waisted Pencil Skirts (Marco De Vincenzo S/S15) to beautiful woven fringe bags with Murano Glass Handle (Salvatore Ferragamo). The other favourite piece is the long languid silhouettes which was heavily featured in the Altuzarra S/S15 Runway, with plunging necklines this line is certainly turning into a favourite of mine.

And my final favourite is the wedge heel and none better than the Salvatore Ferragamo famed 1938 Rainbow wedges. Giornetti commented “that it occurred to him that the spirit of the late ‘30s was very similar to the ‘70s” which is why he wanted to re-explore the shoe this Season using very modern tones and materials such “dove grey and white leathers, natural materials including cork, and exotic skins, and even fine metallic mesh.” Giornetti states in an interview that “To me it was very modern to link humble fabrics like canvas, cotton and linen with precious skins like Lizard and snakeskin.” These shoes will certainly be another of the lines long lasting standouts.

The Dressed In Jewels team have been working over the last month creating many mood boards surrounding the ‘70s style and creating some wonderful new pieces to tailor into this ever growing trend.

We have decided to continue to build on the Classic trend of the Pearl. Mainly using fresh water pearls and featuring Blister Pearls for the first time. Mixing different shapes and sizes creating long chains with Sterling silver and Gold Findings, mixing with semi-Precious Gemstones such as Black Onyx, Feathers, Medallion and Swarovski Crystal Pendants. Recreating the “Hoop” earring featuring Blister Pearls. There is bound to be a piece of ‘70s for everyone.

These pieces will start to be released from Mid January to Late February.
